Sports Wrap-up: Liverpool Qualify for Finals Despite Loss at Roma
The countdown for Russia 2018 World Cup is still on and It’s 42 Days to go.
From the Home Front
DAUDA COSTS ENYIMBA DEAR
Nigeria’s World Cup-bound goalkeeper Ikechuwku Ezenwa returned from injury last week to post a Man of the Match performance for Enyimba.
In what appears to be rotational goalkeeping, Fatau Dauda was restored to the starting line-up, and proceeded to splash egg all over the face of his coach, picking up an unnecessary red card for violent conduct in their home game against Akwa United.
Solomon Ogbeide, who used to coach Sunshine Stars, returned to a familiar ground and was so confident in the strength of his squad that he left his side’s top scorer Samad Kadiri on the bench against his former charges.
Last weekend, flaming hot league leading scorer Junior Lokosa saw himself smothered by Lobi Stars as the league leaders ran away 1-0 winners. So disappointing was the striker that he had to be substituted, a rarity.
But only one matchday later, he was making amends. Lokosa hit goals number 15 and 16 of the campaign to help Pillars claim a 2-0 win against bottom side Heartland.
UEFA Champions League
Although Liverpool’s were subdued in Italy – losing 4-2 to Roma in Italy – Sadio Mane’s early goal and Georginio Wijnaldum’s header were enough assurance for the Reds who were battered in the second half. They won 7-6 over two legs and will face Real Madrid in the final
Real Madrid progress despite poor performance
Sven Ulreich’s huge error ultimately proved decisive as Real Madrid progressed to the Champions League final thanks to a 2-2 draw in an enthralling semi-final second leg at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Madrid came from behind to win 2-1 last week in the first leg at the Allianz Arena, and sealed their progression with a 4-3 aggregate triumph despite an unconvincing performance on Tuesday.
The Conference semis are on after the mouth watering performances from the respective semi finalists.
After the showdown with the Indiana Pacers, the Cleveland Cavaliers have been tied to face the Toronto Raptors while the Utah Jazz are facing Houston Rockets.
The Golden State Warriors are to face the New Orleans Pelicans and the 76ers face the Boston Celtics.
Here is how the series stands after Game two of the Semis :
Jazz vs Rockets (series tied)
GSW Vs NOP ( GSW lead 2-0)
76ers Vs Celtics (BOS lead 1-0)
Cavs Vs Raptors ( Cavs lead 1-0)
