Word on the Street: Wizkid breaks yet another record, Real Madrid sacks it’s manager and more

Welcome to today’s Word on the Street. What did we miss yesterday, you ask? Read on.

Wizkid is now one of the highest paid artistes for bookings in the world

Starboy

Nigerian ace Starboy, Wizkid was paid 50 million Indian Rupees ($681,200, ₦245.9 million) to perform at a royal wedding at the Umaid Bhawad Palace in India, one of the world’s top private residences.

Starboy is now the highest paid African artiste for bookings. Everywhere stew!

This Ugandan Archbishop wants the government to deduct tithes from workers’ salaries

Cyprian Kizito Lwanga, Catholic Archbishop of Kampala said this during a mass.

His argument is this; many Christians don’t pay tithes and it affects church projects, if tithes are removed from your salary, you’d not have to bother about paying it in church.

Also, most people tend to drop the amount they have at the time, it’s possible they might want to pay more, you know the traditional 10%. Oh and Germans do it already, so why not Africans right?

We know what the Bible says about paying tithes but having it deducted from my salary is just somehow. Truthfully, it’d be convenient for those who do pay tithes, but for others? Not so much.

I’m not sure how I feel about this one yet, I’ll let you know later. Nigerian Clergymen may never try this because they get enough backlash from Nigerians already.

Julen Lopetegui, Real Madrid’s manager had a bad day yesterday

After four months and 14 games, as manager of the club, Julen Lopetegui was sacked following Real Madrid’s 5-1 loss to Barcelona.

Those who say Cristano Ronaldo was “single-handedly carrying” the club before he left for Juventus might be on to something. On the other hand, “the board understands that there is a big difference between the quality of Real Madrid’s squad, which has eight players nominated for the next Ballon D’Or, something without precedent in the history of the club, and the results obtained to date,” reads a statement released by the club.

In other words, the players are great, their manager, not so much. Meanwhile, Santiago Solari, the club’s Castilla coach will take over as interim manager starting today while the club looks for a replacement for Lopetegui.

Yvonne Nwosu gets stuck in an elevator

According to gist, the celebrity fashion designer was stuck in an elevator in Oriental Hotel, Lagos. She was heard screaming “I can’t breathe” as she banged the elevator door and try to open it with her hands. Apparently, the elevator emergency Bell was broken so she could not use.

Luckily, she and the others stuck didn’t spend too much time in the elevator as the hotel staff reportedly made a hole through the wall to let them out.

If I ever got stuck in an elevator, I imagine I’d be the one at the corner, keeping calm and not freaking out, until I can’t breathe that is.

End. Have a terrific Tuesday.
