YC is 1: It all started as a dream

Exactly a year ago, having discovered a gap between emerging young Nigerians and the mainstream media, Youth Central was launched with a central focus; to inspire, educate, inform and entertain young Nigerians all over the globe. In two months, we knew what we had to do. I want to thank you for all that you helped us achieve this past year, and offer a brief sneak peek into the one ahead.

Last year…..

We started with just an Instagram page and opened up a website days after. The burning desire to celebrate young Nigerians who are yet to “blow” made us start Rising Stars — a showcase of young Nigerians who are trying to make sense of themselves and solve problems around them–.

Rising Stars and Nigerian Voices

In February, we started scouting for brilliant young Nigerians in various fields who are challenging the status quo. We were able to talk to different people, understanding the challenges they face and how they have been able to conquer.

Some of the remarkable discoveries we made include, Pamilerin Adegoke who made his first million at the age of 19  and Victor Fatanmi who is leading a young team that has been building brand identities for local and international brands.

We were able to record over 1000% increase in users and pageviews without any form of marketing. The vision of YC has seen us spread our tentacles to several niche sectors. We recently rebranded to reflect the vibrancy and the market we play in. With more than 14,000 people following us on Instagram, we are looking to grow our traffic much further this year.

We had three amazing people join us this year and they all play very huge roles at YC;

Tomi Ologunsua is our Sports Correspondent

Alaba Habeebah Olamide is our Fashion Correspondent

Segun Kolawole is our Movie Correspondent

What next?

This year we are more focused on telling stories that connect young Nigerians. We’ll be exploring sectors you are more interested in and bringing the stories closer to you. We would be more direct on our content cutting across music, sports, fashion, movies, food, career (business professionals, entrepreneurs, students), art & culture, celebrities and entertainment gist. We would feature the power players in these sectors, understanding where we are and what is to come.

Last year was a hit, this year we are going to break the norm. I remain Femi Daniels, and on behalf of the team, we wish you a prosperous 2019. We appreciate everyone that has supported us thus far, encouraging us to do more.

We need more of your support in 2019, and I believe that together we are going to rock this year.
