The Met Gala and all Its Glamour
The Met Gala is definitely the biggest event on the fashion fundraising calendar founded by publicist Eleanor Lambert. The event was first held in 1948 to encourage donations from New York’s highest society which has since then become an Annual event.
The Met Gala 2019 didn’t leave out the usual glamour and jaw-dropping outfits. Now you get why there is always a whole lot of buzz about this spectacular event. The Gala which took place at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, the United States on Monday 6th of May marked the event’s 71st anniversary and was co-chaired by Lady Gaga, Alessandro Michelle, Harry Styles and Serena Williams.
This year Met’s theme “Camp: Notes on Fashion” was inspired by US writer and political activist Susan Sontag’s 1964 essay, Notes on camp. The outfits this year were, therefore, like the exhibition based on “irony, humour, parody, pastiche, artifice, theatricality and exaggeration”.
The entire event was sponsored by Gucci and the exhibition featured over 200 pieces of fashion, along with sculptures, paintings, and drawings from the 17th century through today.
The 2019 Met Gala was definitely not lacking spectacular red carpet moments. Lady Gaga, one of the event’s co-hosts, arrived in a billowing pink outfit, which opened to reveal a black gown, her second outfit, which was then cast aside in favour of her third outfit, a slim-fitting pink gown, which she then took off to reveal her final outfit.
Serena Williams, who was also one of the co-hosts, arrived in a neon yellow gown with matching Nike trainers.
Singer Janelle Monae turned heads in a gown complete with a blinking eye.
Bollywood star Deepika Padukone channelled Barbie in a large pink gown. Lavern Cox went for a sleek black dress and bold makeup. The third co-host, Harry Styles, wore a sheer black top and high-waisted trousers.
Yara Shahidi went all out with the feathers much like the Met Gala’s main host, Vogue editor, Anna Wintour.
